Tournament Structure:
The championship will consist of a sixteen (16) team tournament.

  • The winners of each power pool will be moved up one spot (i.e., The winner of power pool B (teams 5-8) will be seeded 4th in the elimination bracket) while the last place team in each power pool will drop one seed (i.e., the last place team in power pool B (teams 5-8) will be seeded 9th in the elimination bracket).

1st – 4th 5th – 8th 9th – 12th 13th – 16th
1st A = 1 4th A = 5 4th B = 9 4th C = 13
2nd A = 2 2nd B = 6 2nd C = 10 2nd D = 14
3rd A = 3 3rd B = 7 3rd C = 11 3rd D = 15
1st B = 4 1st C = 8 1st D = 12 4th D = 16

All matches on the championship side of the draw will be Best 3-of-5. All Placement and Consolation matches will be best 2-of-3. The bronze medal match will be best 2-of- 3.

  • Volleyball Canada Warm-Up – a minimum of 5 minutes will be given before the 5 and 5 after the previous match is finished.
  • During the designated-on court warm-up time:

    • Athletes must remain on their side of the net immediately following an attack and only move to the opposite side of the net from outside of the court.
    • Athletes are not permitted into the receiving court.
    • Any ball from the receiving side of the court, entered to the attacking side, must be entered from outside of the court.
    • Retrieved balls must be returned along the sidelines of the court and not through the receiving court.
    • If the team is using both sides of the court (full court game type activity – only one ball can be in play at any given time).
    • Opposing teams are not permitted to use volleyballs in the free zone during the other team’s allocated court time.
    • It is recommended that the opposing team support the retrieval of volleyballs for the team on the court.
  • Captain’s Bar – mandatory at the start of the match.  Make sure to identify the replacement captain.
    • Ball handling is at the discretion of the officials and not open to discussion.  The captain is the only person allowed to approach the referee and only for questions of rule interpretation or clarification.
    • If a captain is subbed off or replaced by Libero, please identify the floor captain.
  • Substitutions – All matches will use the 12-sub unlimited rule with 1 or 2 liberos.  Players call their own subs (must be in the substitution zone). The coach does not give the substitution signal.
