1020.0 Badminton – Single player order based on strength

1022.1.7 Within a tie, an athlete can play up to two matches. If an athlete participates in two matches, it must be either one singles and one doubles C, or  two doubles (A or B) matches.

  • A student-athlete who plays in a singles match (Match 3 or 4) may only play in the doubles C pairing (match 7).
  • An athlete in the doubles pairing (either A or B) must play both matches with the same pairing.  A student-athlete cannot play doubles A pairing and then play in double B pairing in the same tie.
  • For the doubles C paring, coaches may choose to play one or both of the student-athletes from single matches, or they may choose one or two different student-athletes, they have not played in that tie.  (cannot choose a player who played in doubles A or B pairing)
  • The singles A player should be stronger than the singles B player.
Tournament Structure
  • The championship will consist of a sixteen (16) team tournament per gender, divided into four (4) pools.
  • After round robin play, teams will be ranked one to four (1-4) in their pools. All teams will be placed into the championship draw based on their placement during the power pools.
The matches will be played in the following order:
  • Match 1: Doubles (A vs B)
  • Match 2: Doubles (B vs A)
  • Match 3: Singles (A vs A)
  • Match 4: Singles (B vs B)
  • Match 5: Doubles (A vs A)
  • Match 6: Doubles (B vs B)
  • Match 7: Doubles (C vs C)
  • To better understand how lineups can be structured in the event of a tie, please refer to the Badminton Line-Up Scenarios.
  • These examples illustrate different strategic approaches that teams may use when assigning players to Matches 1–7.
  • For full details on match timing, substitutions, and procedures in the event of incomplete ties, please review the technical package. The Tie Protocol (100-Minute Tie Window) is included within this document.
