Soccer Provincials - Tournament Rules

Tournament Structure
The championship will consist of a sixteen (16) team tournament.

  • The tournament will be separated into four (4) pools of four (4) teams each.
  • At the conclusion of the pool play, teams will be seeded into a bracket, with the first place teams moving into the semi-finals, the 2nd place teams contesting 5th-8th spot, 3rd place teams playing for 9th-12th, and fourth place teams contesting 13th- 16th place. 
  • All matches are two 35-minute halves. 

Official Tournament Rules
The rules of play shall be the Laws of the Game as published by BC Soccer with the following modifications.
  • All matches will consist of two 35-minute halves.
  • Teams are permitted unlimited substitutions.
  • Teams may have an unlimited number of players on the roster but only 20 players are permitted to dress in uniform for the match.
  • Teams must submit their roster for each match on a sheet provided by the Championship Host Committee no less than 30 minutes before the start of each game.
  • In round robin games, should the score be tied at the conclusion of regulation (and stoppage) time. Each team receives one point, and the game is over. Penalty kicks will only occur for potential tie-breaking scenarios in the pool play.
  • If any game is tied in the championship draw (after round robin) an overtime of two 7.5-minute halves will be played. If there still is a tie at the end of overtime, penalty shots will be taken (F.I.F.A) rules.
  • Placement games (games to place schools 5-16th) on the final day of championships will not have overtime and will go straight into penalty kicks.

Bookings, Player Conduct and Discipline

  • Coaches are responsible for the behaviour of all students and personnel on the bench.
  • Any player receiving 3 yellow cards during the tournament must sit out the following game.
  • Additional games may be given at the discretion of the Championship Discipline committee.
  • Any player receiving a red card will be subject to review by the discipline committee.
  • Any incidents of player misconduct will be evaluated and ruled by the championship committee.

Protests
Protests will be received by the tournament director and be evaluated by the Championship Discipline Committee.


Uniforms
All teams/athletes must wear matching official school uniforms during the games and at awards. Players must have the same jersey.  All uniforms are required to have a number on each jersey. Corporate logos are restricted to a maximum of two logos, and each logo should not exceed the dimensions of a credit card.


Equipment
The official game ball of BCSS Soccer will be an Adidas Authentic Championship Game Ball.
